Land Acknowledgement

Acknowledging Indigenous Lands: A Step Towards Justice

We, the Democratic Party of Jefferson County, acknowledge the ancestral, ceded and unceded territory of the Wana Łama (Warm Springs), Wasq’ú (Wasco), and Northern Paiute Tribes, today known as the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs

In recognizing this, we also acknowledge the painful history of dispossession and displacement that Indigenous Peoples have faced. Our acknowledgment serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for dialogue, respect, and collaboration with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and all Indigenous communities. It is a commitment to learning from these histories and working towards a more just and equitable future together.

As members of the Jefferson County community and as part of the Democratic Party, we commit to not only recognizing these truths in words but in action. We pledge to engage in policies and practices that honor the sovereignty, rights, and cultural heritage of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and all Indigenous Peoples. We recognize that this is a journey of continuous learning, listening, and growth.

Let this acknowledgment serve as a step towards acknowledging the past, being present with our responsibilities today, and moving forward with a commitment to justice, respect, and partnership.
